An interesting, inside view of the history and development of one of the great platformer games in recent history. If you are interested in this kind of background game developer information, this book is an easy read and keeps you reading. There are other books in this series that give you a glimpse of other games and genres, and hopefully there are others that are just as good.
Being a hobby game marker there aren't many people around just talk talk games and shop. This book is what I needed to fill a void that needed to filled. Thanks a million to the author.
If you loved the Spelunky game, then this is definitely an interesting book for you. Derek Yu is not only an amazing game designer, but a talented writer as well. I greatly enjoyed reading his thoughts on life, designing games, and working hard towards achieving your goals. It is very inspiring to see how he developed Spelunky throughout the years, and how he offered an enthralling experience for gamers who like challenging games. I have played many hours of Spelunky, and I think the book helped me to enjoy it even more!
I'm close to done with the book, down to the last 20 pages and it has been a great read. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to understand more about the thought process behind games development -- not just this great title. Well written and enjoyable to read.
